Local History

The Mu Omicron Chapter was founded on May 31, 1976 at the then Valdosta State Campus.  During the year of 1976, the minority population at VSC was very small and the school administration agreed to allow one black Greek fraternity and there was an Alpha that worked at the campus and he agreed to spearhead this endeavor. The Mu Omicron chapter was chartered by eight great men that we refer to as our charter brothers (three of whom have entered the Omega Chapter). They are:

David Lowe, Robert Whitfield, Randy Rush, Warren Dolphus, Warren Harris, Jerome Wiggins, James Brazier, David Jerkins.

Since our founding here at Valdosta State University, we have strived to be community leaders on and off campus and provide service and advocacy to all mankind. Charter Brother Dr. Randy Rush once said, “the founding of Mu Omicron is very similar to that of the Jewels, we were on a predominately white campus and saw the need to come together as brothers and unite under the aims of our beloved Alpha Phi Alpha.”
